Susan Abernethy here. It seems I can’t remember a time when I didn’t love history. At the age of fourteen, I watched “The Six Wives of Henry VIII” on TV and was enthralled. Truth seemed much more strange than fiction. I started reading about Henry VIII and then branched out into many types of history. This even led me to study history in college. Even though I never did anything with the history degree, it’s always been a hobby of mine. I started The Freelance History Writer to write about my thoughts on all kinds of history from Ancient times to mid-20th Century. Feel free to have a look around.

  1. Hi Susan. I’m looking to re-release my novel, The Slave, set in 14th century Italy. Would you be interested in reviewing the book or hosting a guest post about an aspect of the book’s historical background?

  2. Hi Susan, I wonder if you would be interested in reviewing a book of mine – it is called ‘The Great War 100’ and tells the story of the First World War using nothing but infographics. It is very unique and this kind of history telling has not been done before. If you are interested I can forward you a complimentary review copy. Thanks, Scott. 3. I hope you are doing well and having a great Monday. I am currently working with Andrew Schultz, author of the historical novel Saints and Heroes. After reviewing your blog I thought you may be interested in Andrew’s book due to your passion for historical novels. With a plot immersed in Scottish history, Saints and Heroes is a unique and compelling book that was inspired by the authors desire to explore his genealogy.

  4. Hi Susan. Thank you your book reviews. I find them and your blog very interesting, and also very useful when creating my historical fiction ( https://jadownes.com ) As an example, I was incorporating the relationship between Stephen Gardiner and Edward Courtenay into my new novel, and hadn’t realise the extent of that relationship until I read your posts. Keep up the great work
